The Protector

By Ze Carrier

As I did grasp my blade on that midnight somber

I did realize the fight was lost

A million to one was the tide

But I did stop my legs for I did remember on that midnight somber what I did fight for

I did fight for that girl

As I did grasp my blade on that midnight somber

I did remember times that were gone

An unrelenting girl who never gave up

That girl who had died in this unforgiving war as a testament of our enemy’s strength

I did fight for her memory and all she believed

As I did grasp my blade on that midnight somber

A tear of remorse did fall down my cheek

A memory unforgiving

That I did gashing through inches of armor, flesh and bones.

I did fight for greatest person I had known

As I did grasp my blade on that midnight somber

When all had been said and done

When a million to one had been the tide

I lay motion less on the battle ground floor my face plastered in a puddle of blood

I had fought and won for that girl

As I did grasp my blade on that midnight somber

I did view into the rising sun

A figure standing there stretching forth their hand

The girl I had fought for shedding but a single tear stretching her hand out as to greet me

I had protected this land for she

As I did grasp my blade on that midnight somber

Her vision before me

Her beauty immeasurable by any standards

I grasped her hand looking back but once at my spiritless corpse, so proud, so weak

I did fight for that girl and now I did join her
