Idea for Character "Valentine"

"Left, left, left, right, left!" ordered the drill sergeant. He proudly marched beside us occasionally adjusting the newbie’s walking. His huge sword clanked on the small amount of armor he had on. “Company at ease!” he shouted over the stomping. We all halted our marching to hear what he had to teach us today. “Today you knuckle heads will learn how to defeat a dragon, the serpents of the non-human world. There are three types of dragons: Neo-Dragons, Pyus-Dragons, and Erq-Dragons. First off we have Neo-Dragons.” He motioned the gate to open. The massive gate for the training are swung slowly open revealing a beast of unimaginable size. Being reptile-like its eyes were that of a snake. Scales covered its entire body; each scale was a periwinkle color. “Each of those scales are as hard and as durable as steel, as rumored Neo-Dragon’s breath will contain flames. The breath alone is hot enough to melt any steel shield meaning trying to shield yourself against the flames is utterly useless. Only certain elements have been found to be useful against these creatures, one of them is bronze. Though bronze will easily melt in combat against the breath, this species of dragon seems to dislike being any where near the substance. They will purposely avoid contact with bronze. I will now show the correct way to grab hold of and control this species of dragon.” The giant sword was drawn, he was able to wield it with a single hand regardless of it being two-thirds his own height. One of the servants ran out to him holding a circular bronze coated shield. “Watch and learn,” he spoke grabbing the shield. He spun the sword around turning to face the dragon. His legs began to sprint toward the dragon. The dragon, seeing the bronze, turned left in a futile attempt to escape. The action past that was near impossible to keep track of, the sergeant was moving so fast he was near invisible to see. Occasionally we would see him jump off the dragon and speed up again. We watched as the harness seemed to materialize around the head of the dragon. I, being the most experienced of these people training, was unimpressed for I had already learned how to do this. I watched anyway though knowing this was my last day in the training center. Within a couple minutes he appeared on top of the dragon. He opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by a man. The man came through the open gate.

“Excuse me, Sergeant I have come to retrieve someone under orders from the ‘Three,” the man said chewing on the kalika in his mouth.

“…Okay who you need?” the sergeant asked looking at the man. The man looked at a scroll in his hand.

“Some guy named Valentine Shazin,” the man spoke looking about the army of trainees. That was me he wanted.

“Val, huh?” the sergeant grumbled, “Not like he need to be here, he’s the most experienced trainee here.” That was the interesting thing about the sergeant, when he was explaining he spoke with proper grammar, but when he spoke normally he spoke in his actual accent which, since he was from the more rural areas of K.r.j.t.a., was improper and somewhat sloppy.

“Fascinating, Val whoever you are come with me,” the man ordered. The man was a little taller than the sergeant. He wore a black cape over the left side of his body. His right side was loosely covered in both an old shirt which went down and past his thighs and a pair of old silk pants. Both the pants and the shirt were dark blue in color. He himself was somewhat pale in skin color with a head of long, strangely styled, black hair. I stepped out of the crowd to follow him. As the two of us left the area I could hear the sergeant continue his lesson.

As we walked on the path to the castle of the ‘Three,’ the man said nothing nor did he even look at me once. “So who are you,” I asked curiously. I suddenly felt a sword at my throat.

“My name is Tubalaer Kalin, and if you ever talk to me so casually again you will find yourself without a head!” he threatened gritting his teeth. His sword went back to its sheath at his side where it was hidden by the cape. I suddenly felt silence was the best idea at this moment.
